Earthquakes and Tsunamis

By far, the most destructive tsunamis are generated from large, shallow earthquakes with an epicentre or fault line near or on the ocean floor. These usually occur in regions of the earth characterized by tectonic sub-diction along tectonic plate boundaries. Tsunamis can be generated when the sea floor abruptly distorts and vertically relocates the superimposing water.
